SALINA, Kan. – Evangel Men's Soccer returned to the road for their final game in a three game road trip, taking on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. Despite Hayes Van Breusegen scoring a pair of goals, the Coyotes would rally, scoring a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes of play to force EU to fall, 3-2.
Evangel dominated the first 20 minutes of play, putting forth several shots on goal and keeping pressure on the Coyotes defense. At the 20:29 mark, Hayes Van Breusegen scored on a pass from Gonzalo Brieva, giving Evangel a 1-0 lead. Both teams traded shots to close out the first half, but the Valor defense kept Kansas Wesleyan off the scoreboard, leading 1-0 at the halftime break.
The Coyotes tied the game up to open the second half on a penalty shot, making it a 1-1 game. Evangel's offense continued to put pressure on Kansas Wesleyan in the second half and again, Van Breusegen was able to use a pass from David Gonifas to re-take the lead, 2-1, at the 68:31 mark. The second score woke the Coyotes offense up, as just nine minutes later, KWU scored the equalizer and then took the lead at the 80:48 mark, 3-2.
