LINDSBORG, Kan. – Valor Softball hit the road on Saturday (Apr. 11) afternoon, taking on the Bethany College Swedes for a KCAC doubleheader in Kansas.
Evangel dominated game one on Saturday, taking a run-rule victory, 8-0. In game two, Evangel would take an early lead, but Bethany used late scoring to force extras and walk-off Evangel, 8-7, in eight innings.
NOTABLE

Maddy Meierer earned the win in game one, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits in the five inning run-rule victory.

Eight different Evangel athletes recorded hits for the Valor on Saturday, with Camryn Casey leading EU with four.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel got on the board early in game one, as Kenna Mayfield singled, stole second, and scored on a Naomi Perkins double. Perkins would come around to score on a Audrey Carlton sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 Evangel lead.

In the top of the second, Camryn Casey hit a lead-off home run, followed by a Karli Facklam double, and wild pitch to score the shortstop, making it a 4-0 EU lead.

After a scoreless third inning, Evangel plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, as Casey singled and Danielle Cutbirth worked a walk. A sacrifice fly from Mayfield scored Casey, while a Perkins double scored Cutbirth to give EU a 6-0 lead.

Lauren Dill was hit by a pitch and Carlton worked a walk, both scoring on a single from Kaylee Dolores to take a 8-0 lead. Maddy Meierer and Evangel's defense were able to shut down the Swedes in the fifth, taking the run-rule win in game one.

In game two, Mayfield worked a walk and stole second, followed by a Dill walk and Natalie Morgan single to score both runners, giving EU a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Casey ripped a double to left center field, scoring on a Cutbirth sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 ballgame. Mayfield worked another walk, stealing second again and scoring on a Perkins single to give EU a 4-0 lead.

Bethany responded by plating three in the bottom of the second, drawing within a run of Evangel's lead, 4-3.

Morgan doubled in the third inning, scoring on an error to extend EU's lead to 5-3.

In the top of the seventh, Hayleigh Shubert doubled and Cutbirth entered to run, as Cutbirth scored on a Perkins sacrifice fly, 6-3.

Bethany kept the game alive by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 6-6.

In the top of the eighth, Dill entered as the runner on second due to the ITB, coming around to score on a sacrifice bunt from Carlton and a sacrifice fly by Casey, 7-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Swedes hit a walk-off two run home run to defeat Evangel, 8-7.

Evangel Softball returns home on Wednesday (Apr. 15) afternoon, taking on the Avila Eagles in a doubleheader matchup beginning at 2:00 p.m., in Springfield.
