Box ScoreĀ

YORK, Neb. -- Evangel Men's Basketball took on the Panthers of York on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon, looking to earn their third straight win in their fourth game in seven days. A consistent showing with very few scoring droughts on Saturday helped the Valor earn their 16th win of the season, 75-57, over York.

As has been the norm over the last few games, Evangel played strong defensively, but also did not score much offensively, as the game was all knotted up at 16-16 nearly 10 minutes into the first half. Ty Campbell and Bryce Ware both knocked down three pointers to push EU out to a 22-16 lead, while Jacob Lafferty, Akarius Staten-Ballance, and Luke Foster helped give the Valor a double digit lead, 33-20. Drew McMillin capped the first half off with a layup to give EU a 39-25 lead at the halftime break.

The trio of Lafferty, McMillin, and Garrett Davault did much of the scoring to open the second half. The Valor maintained their double digit lead over the Panthers before four free throws from Isaac Wootton helped EU take a 20-point lead, 57-37. Cade Sutton and Ware both scored baskets late to help keep the Valor well ahead of the Panthers, as Evangel cruised to a 75-57 win on Saturday afternoon in Nebraska.

QUOTABLEĀ

"I was really proud of our guys for their effort today, especially on the defensive end," head coach Bert Capel stated. "Finishing up a four game week with a long road trip at the end isn't easy to do, but I thought we responded well."

NOTABLEĀ

  • Jacob Lafferty led Evangel with 11 points in the win.

  • Ty Campbell (10 pts.) and Garrett Davault (10 pts.), rounded out double digit scoring on Saturday.

  • Lafferty pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

  • Davault passed off a team high four assists and came away with a team high four steals in the win.
