Complete Team Effort Fuels Evangel WBB to 97-62 Victory over York

YORK, NEB. – Evangel WBB hit the road on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon, taking on the York Panthers in a brief road-trip to Nebraska. The Valor put forth a dominant effort on Saturday, as five players scored in double digits, leading to a 97-62 road victory.

Evangel jumped out to a 9-2 lead, with baskets coming from Carson Dillard, Alyssa McCarty, and Heaven Shockley, but York quickly responded with a 8-0 run to lead the Valor, 10-9. Evangel made sure to hold the Panthers at bay for the remainder of the quarter, as a 14-0 run helped EU jump out to a 23-10 lead, with a Lydia Babirye layup closing out scoring in the first quarter, 27-14.

The Valor were able to take as large as a 25-point lead over York in the second quarter, as Brooklyn Kearbey and Evin Montgomery both added five points each in the period to lead EU. York was unable to keep pace with Evangel's fervent pace in the period, as EU held the Panthers to just 11 points in the quarter, 47-25.

Shockley dominated the third quarter, scoring 10 points on 5-6 shooting as Evangel scored 28 points in the period, the most they scored in a single quarter on Saturday. York kept pace for much of the quarter, but eventually were outscored by a point, as EU took a 75-52 lead into the final quarter of play.

Evangel dominated the final quarter of play, outscoring York 22-10, with eight points coming from Montgomery in the period. Baskets from Ashton Bell and Morgan Ross capped off the game for the Valor, as EU cruised their way to a 97-62 victory on Saturday, their 20th win of the season.

"Good win today, but our standard doesn't change," stated head coach Madi Wallace. "We're focused on getting better every game, and today was a step in the right direction moving forward."
