LINDSBORG, Kan. – Evangel Baseball concluded their three game road series with Bethany on Saturday (Feb. 28) afternoon, looking to take the series, needing just one win to do so after a Friday win.
The Valor allowed late runs in both of Saturday's contest which proved detrimental, forcing Evangel to fall 6-4 and 16-8 on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Bethany took an early 2-0 lead in game one, scoring the pair in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second, Justus Cherrico walked and scored on a Mason Reilly single to make the deficit just one run, 2-1.

Bethany retook a two run lead in the third inning, 3-1.

Drew Dobberstein reached base on an error in the sixth inning, while Nolan Arnold was hit by a pitch, putting both runners on when Evan Jno-Baptiste hit a home run to give EU a 4-3 lead over Bethany.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Swedes were able to hit a three run home run, taking a 6-4 lead over the Valor.

Evangel was able to get a pair of runners on in the top of the ninth, but a double play killed their comeback chances, falling 6-4 in game two.

Baptiste and Cole Leonhart both singled to open game three with Peyton Gayer being hit by a pitch to load the bases. A pair of fielders choices scored Baptiste and Gayer, giving EU an early 2-0 advantage in game three.

Bethany took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring a trio of runs, 3-2.

Cherrico was hit by a pitch, scoring on a Kannon Perry home run in the top of fourth to give EU a 4-3 lead.

The Swedes scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-4 lead over Evangel.

In the top of the fifth, Baptiste singled, scoring on a Gayer triple, before Gayer scored on a Leonhart sacrifice fly, trailing by just one run, 7-6.

Bethany matched the EU runs in the bottom of the fifth, re-taking a three run 9-6 lead over the Valor.

K. Perry hit another home run in the top of the sixth to draw EU back within a run of the lead, 9-8, scoring Braiden Whitaker who was running for Cherrico who had singled to get on base.

Evangel was unable to score any additional runs, as the Swedes added seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, forcing EU to fall in the finale, 16-8.
NOTABLE

Kannon Perry recorded a team high four RBIs with Evan Jno-Baptiste recording three on Saturday.

Perry added his first two home runs of the season in game three, while Baptiste recorded his third of the year in game two.
