SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Men's Soccer took on the Friends Falcons on Wednesday (Oct. 21) night, looking to attempt to earn more points in the conference standings race. Penalty shots were the thorn in Evangel's side on Wednesday night, as the Falcons scored on all three of their attempts, taking a 3-0 win over the Valor.
The Valor defense battled to keep Friends off the scoreboard early in Wednesday's contest, but in the 34th minute of play, the Falcons were awarded a penalty in the box, scoring on a penalty shot that hit the left side of the goal, giving Friends a 1-0 lead they held to the halftime break, as EU earned just two shots in the first half (Tales Ruiz, Hayes Van Breusegen).
Evangel's defense again battled in the second half, attempting to keep Friends from extending their lead, but at the 70:33 mark, a handball in the box was awarded to the Falcons, as the shot went to the right of the goal this time, making it a 2-0 ballgame. Friends was able to score one final penalty shot in the game, as David Gonifas recorded EU's lone shot on goal late in the contest, but the FU keeper earned the save, as the Valor fell, 3-0.
