YORK, Neb. – Evangel Women's Soccer hit the road on Saturday (Oct. 10) afternoon, taking on the York Panthers in a KCAC matchup. After taking a 2-0 win on Wednesday over Ottawa, the Valor aimed to build off what was a strong effort. Despite holding a tie at the halftime break, the Panthers scored a pair of goals in the second half that proved to be the difference, as EU fell, 3-1, on Saturday.

York came out quickly, scoring a goal in the first five minutes of play to take a 1-0 advantage over EU. The Valor responded by putting pressure on the York defense and at the 16:58 mark, Lili Thiessen netted a goal on a pass from Emma Budimlya to tie the game at 1-1. Evangel was unable to record any additional shots in the first half, as the defense beheld the Panthers without a goal for the remainder of the period, taking a 1-1 tie into the halftime break.

The Valor were unable to record a shot in the second half, as the defense fought tooth and nail, but were not able to keep York from taking a lead. The Panthers would add a pair of goals at the 55:23 and 66:11 mark, forcing EU to fall, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Nebraska.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Lili Thiessen scored her third goal of the season in the loss, while Emma Budimlya recorded her fourth assist.

• Paige Estes and Samantha Shane both recorded three saves in goal on Saturday.

QUOTABLE

"While I am so proud of how we battled and created chances to bring the match level at halftime, during the second half, we created challenges for ourselves by not connecting effectively enough overall," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We were disconnected at times in our shape through the lines and York took advantage of that. We also had some connection challenges in moving the ball around the field. We will work on correcting the technical side and help the team understand it even more clearly going forward, so I will accept the responsibility of our connection challenges and we will focus there."
