Box Score

LINDSBORG, Kan. -- After taking wins in their first nine conference games of the season, Evangel Women's Basketball hit the road on Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon, taking on the Bethany College Swedes. Looking to move to 10-0 on the season in KCAC play, the Valor outscored the Swedes in every quarter, taking a 27-point win over Bethany, 87-60, on Saturday.

Heaven Shockley was unstoppable in the first quarter for the Valor, going 4-4 and scoring eight points to lead EU in scoring. Alyssa McCarty opened the game by hitting a three pointer, with Bethany responding to each EU basket, as the Swedes led 8-7, with 6:50 remaining in the first quarter. Shockley took over helping EU retake the lead, before Ali Kamies added five points of her own to give the Valor a 18-12 lead. Heaven closed the quarter with a basket as EU led, 20-15.

Carson Dillard used the second quarter to help the Valor extend their advantage on the scoreboard, as the senior added 10 points in the period. Bethany would draw within three points of Evangel's lead early in the quarter, but three pointers from Dillard and Cassidy Hambelton aided EU offensively. McCarty closed out the quarter with an old fashioned three point play, but the Swedes hit a three pointer to end the second quarter, as the Valor led 44-32 at the halftime break.

Hambelton went 5-5 from the floor in the third quarter, scoring 12 points, including seven of Evangel's first 11, giving EU a 55-38 lead. The Valor took as much as a 25-point lead in the third period, using a Shockley layup to make it a 65-40 ballgame with 3:32 left in the quarter. The Swedes closed the period out on a 7-4 run as EU led, 69-47.

Six different Valor athletes scored in the first quarter of play on Saturday, as Evangel continued to distance themselves on the scoreboard. A layup by Lydia Babirye towards the end of the period gave EU their largest lead of the game, 87-58 (29 pts.), before Bethany ended the contest with a basket, as the Valor ran away with a 87-60 win, their 10th consecutive in conference play.
