SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer hosted the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Saturday (Sept. 27) afternoon, looking to earn more points in the conference standings after earning a win on Wednesday. Taking on a tough KWU squad that made the national tournament last season, Evangel put forth a strong effort, fighting to a scoreless draw with KWU, 0-0.
Hayes Van Breusegen opened Saturday's game with a strong attempt on goal that required a save from the KWU goalie. The Coyotes offense recorded several shots in the first half, outshooting EU, 6-4, but Davide Marzoli and the Valor defense kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard, as both teams headed to the halftime break in a 0-0 tie.
Kansas Wesleyan's first shot of the second half hit off the post, just barely keeping the game scoreless. Franco Cuevas was able to respond by putting a shot on goal, but again the Coyotes keeper earned a save, keeping the game scoreless. Both offenses put forth strong attempts late, as the game became tense and physical, as the officials let both teams play through contact. Vasco Goncalves and Micah Siems both had opportunities late to score a game winning goal, but KWU's defense kept Evangel from scoring, while the Evangel defense did the same, resulting in a thrilling scoreless draw on Saturday.

QUOTABLE
"Kansas Wesleyan is a quality team that went to the national tournament last year. They are always technical and physical. Our guys responded to everything they threw at us and we had a lot of opportunities to score including missing a goal at the goal line. I am really excited about how consistent our team has become," Men's Soccer Head Coach Kyle Beard stated. "We have played smarter soccer with every match and tonight we probably played our best defensive game of the year. I'm really excited about this team and how they are coming together!"
