LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Valor Softball returned to action on Wednesday (May 14) morning, taking on the two-seeded St. Thomas Bobcats in the Opening Round Semifinals.

Needing a win to advance to the championship, the Valor battled, putting together long at-bats and stringing several hits to put runners on, but came up just short of enough offense to score runs, falling 4-0 and concluding the historic 2025 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Valor bats got to work early on Wednesday, as both Kenna Mayfield and Naomi Perkins recorded base hits to put both runners in scoring position with no outs.

  • Evangel could not find an additional base hit to score the runners on second and third, heading into the bottom of the inning with a scoreless tie.

  • The Bobcats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead over EU.

  • Camryn Casey singled to center field in the second inning, but no extra offense came as both teams went scoreless in the second frame.

  • The Bobcats added a trio of runs in the third inning, taking a 4-0 lead over the Valor.

  • Madi Bentley entered out of the bullpen in the bottom of the third and kept Evangel in the game, not allowing the Bobcats to score any additional runs in the game.

  • Evangel would put a runner on base in both the fourth and fifth innings, but could not move the runners across to score.

  • In the seventh inning, the Valor knew they needed hits and runs to keep their season alive. With two outs, it appeared an Evangel rally was beginning to build, as Perkins and Ellie Facklam both singled to get on base. Karlie Romines would battle at the plate and hit a shot to right field, unfortunately right at the fielder, as EU fell, 4-0.

QUOTABLE

"Competitive sports is always about numbers and records. This was a season of big numbers and broken records. I hope that someday we know the number of souls we impacted for Christ," stated head coach Jay Halbrook. "I'm so thankful for these ladies and the passion and determination with which they approach everything. This team is a blessing to me, to each other, our University, and our Lord."
