Evangel Baseball Falls to Ottawa on Friday

OTTAWA, Kan. – Evangel Baseball traveled north of Springfield on Friday (Mar. 21) afternoon to open a three game series with nationally ranked #21 Ottawa, looking to build off their win on Tuesday against Friends.

Evangel and Ottawa held a tied game in the third inning, but 17 runs over three innings for the Braves offense opened the game up, resulting in a 18-4 loss in seven innings of play for the Valor.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ottawa scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Valor early on Friday.

  • Evangel tied the game up in the top of the third inning when Shane Poe singled, scoring Jeremiah Leaming who had gotten on base after being hit by a pitch.

  • Five Ottawa runs in the bottom of the third, followed by seven additional runs made it a 13-1 ballgame.

  • In the top of the fifth, Rhett Hayward and Poe singled and both scored on groundouts to trail by ten runs, 13-3.

  • Ottawa added five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 18-3 lead.

  • Leaming reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single from Justice Loflin, as Evangel scored their final run of the game, falling in seven innings, 18-4.
