FORSYTH, Mo. – On a very cold and windy Friday (Feb. 14) afternoon, Valor Baseball opened their conference schedule, playing host to the 12th ranked Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes, looking to take an upset win over the Coyotes, who had made the NAIA World Series last season.
The Valor would jump out to an early lead, but on what was a windy day on a smaller field proved to be the advantage Kansas Wesleyan would use, as EU fell, 16-4, in Friday's nine inning matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first inning, the Valor took an early 1-0 lead over the Coyotes. After Quentin Edwards got on base on a fielders choice, an Evan Baptiste single and Brendan Coffindaffer single scored Edwards, giving Evangel their first run of the afternoon.

Kansas Wesleyan scored eight unanswered runs in the third through fifth innings, taking an 8-1 lead over the Valor.

In the bottom of the fifth, Evangel tacked on a pair of runs, taking advantage of a throwing error from the Coyotes, scoring both Heath Perry and Rhett Hayward, who had gotten on base via single and walk, respectively.

Kansas Wesleyan and Evangel matched runs in the sixth inning, as the Valor pushed a run across on a Heath Perry single which scored Clay Palen, who had doubled in his previous at bat, making it a 9-4 game.

The nationally ranked Coyotes would score seven combined unanswered runs in the seventh and ninth innings, as EU fell, 16-4.
