KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Valor Men's Basketball traveled north to Kansas City on Monday (Nov. 3) evening, taking on the UMKC Roos in an exhibition matchup with the NCAA D-I school. Evangel would battle, leading for the majority of the contest, but a late run by the Roos forced EU to fall in their exhibition, 80-74.
Evangel jumped out early on UMKC, taking a 16-6 lead with several baskets coming from Garrett Davault and Harrison Doennig. The Roos were able to even the score midway through the first half, hitting several three pointers to tie the game. The Valor would continue to hold their advantage for the rest of the first half, taking a 39-34 lead into the break with Davault leading EU.
Evangel and UMKC traded the lead on several occasions in the second half and the Roos would ultimately grab a three possession lead, holding on to it until three minutes remained in the contest. Jacob Lafferty took over late, scoring baskets and hitting free throws to draw Evangel within a point of UMKC's lead, 75-74, with 32 seconds remaining. After a pair of made UMKC free throws, Evangel lost the ball and a foul was called, as the Roos would knock down late free throws forcing EU to fall in their exhibition, 80-74.

"I was proud of how we played with some toughness tonight," stated head coach Bert Capel. "We still have a ways to go on both sides of the ball to get better, but it was a step in the right direction."
