KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Evangel Men's Basketball traveled just north to Kansas City to take on the Avila Eagles, looking to bounce back after a tough road loss to #18 Friends on Saturday. The Valor struggled defensively, as Avila shot over 60 percent from the floor, forcing EU to fall 97-74 on the road.
Avila jumped out to a 7-0 lead over Evangel on Wednesday, but a 6-2 run with a pair of baskets coming from Harrison Doennig helped draw the Valor within three points of the Avila lead, 9-6, just five minutes into the game. Several three pointers over the following five minutes from the Eagles expanded the Avila lead to 12, 27-15, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. Jacob Lafferty would help Evangel keep pace with Avila's scoring, but the Eagles continued to add points to the scoreboard, as they hit a three just before halftime, forcing EU to trail 56-39 at the halftime break.
The Eagles seemingly could not miss in the second half, hitting 66.7 percent of their attempts in the period. Ty Campbell began to heat up from the floor and helped draw Evangel back within 10 points of the Avila lead, 63-53, with just under 15 minutes left in the game. The Valor grew cold from the floor and the Eagles continued their three point barrage in the second half, hitting seven to extend and hold their lead over EU to the finish, 97-74.
