TEXARKANA, Texas – Valor Baseball concluded their road trip on Saturday (Jan. 25) afternoon, looking to bounce back and compete against the Eagles of Texas A&M-Texarkana in their final two games of a four game series.
The Valor and Eagles played another tightly contested first game, similar to yesterday, that saw Evangel come up just short in a comeback effort, 6-7, nearly rallying after being down by three runs. EU struggled offensively in game four, mustering just three hits in a 0-15 loss to close the four game series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Valor were able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead over the Eagles in game three, using small ball (a pair of sacrifice bunts) to score Evan Baptiste, who doubled to open the game.
-
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning before the Valor again responded, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second. Quentin Edwards singled, followed by a walk from Heath Perry to put a pair of runners on. An error in the field for TAMUT scored both Edwards and Perry, giving Evangel a 3-2 lead.
-
TAMUT scored four unanswered runs to take a 3-6 lead over Evangel, carrying the lead into the top of the fifth inning.
-
In the top of the fifth, Evangel was able to come roaring back, as Peyton Gayer and Shane Poe opened the inning with a pair of singles, before an error scored Gayer. Brendan Coffindaffer, who reached on the error, stole second and a walk from Quentin Edwards loaded the bases for EU. Matthew Olson came up clutch, driving in a pair of runs on a double to tie the game up at 6-6. A pitching change stalled Evangel's offense, but the damage had been done to tie the game up.
-
An error in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed TAMUT to score the go ahead run, as Evangel could not score in the seventh inning, stranding a runner on second to fall, 6-7.
-
In game four, the Valor were able to get singles in the first and fifth innings, but were unable to get any offensive runs across the plate, as they fell, 0-15, in their final game of the weekend.
