STERLING, Kan. – Valor Softball continued their road trip on Saturday (Apr. 6) afternoon, looking to continue their winning ways, this time against the Sterling College Warriors. Evangel did just that on Saturday, taking a pair of dominant victories over the Warriors.
Evangel's Maddy Meierer nearly threw a perfect game in game one, allowing just a single hit, coming in the sixth inning, as EU took a 6-0 victory. Ashland Diggs also had a strong performance for the Valor in game two, not allowing a run en route to Evangel's 7-0 victory and sweep of Sterling College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Evangel opened game one by scoring four runs in the first inning. Kenna Mayfield walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a Annslee Leeviraphan bunt single, and scored on a bases loaded walk from Karlie Romines, after Ellie Facklam was hit by a pitch. Megan Stone also worked a walk to score Leeviraphan. A Phoebe Gardner fielders choice scored Facklam and Danielle Cutbirth rounded out scoring for EU by pushing Stone across home plate on a ground out, making it 4-0, EU.

Kenna Mayfield was hit by a pitch to open the second inning, advanced to second by stealing a base, pushed over to third on a Annslee Leeviraphan ground out and scored on an Ellie Facklam groundout to make it 5-0.

Maddy Meierer and the Evangel defense kept the Warriors off the scoreboard while the Valor picked up an insurance run in the fifth inning. Phoebe Gardner singled to left field and Autumn Nold entered to run. Nold advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third base, and scored on a wild pitch to take a 6-0 lead.

The Valor defense closed the door on the Warriors, taking a 6-0 win in game one.

Evangel got their offense going in the top of the second inning in game two. Phoebe Gardner worked a walk and advanced to second after Danielle Cutbirth was hit by a pitch. Kenna Mayfield also worked a walk to load the bases for Evangel. An error on the Warriors allowed Gardner and Cutbirth to score, as EU took a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Megan Stone was hit by a pitch. Lauren Dill hit a triple to left center field, scoring Stone in the following at bat. A Dakota Hale groundout scored Dill to make it a 4-0 ballgame.

Kenna Mayfield doubled to left field to open the top of the fifth inning and a Annslee Leeviraphan single scored Mayfield to push EU out to a 5-0 lead.

Evangel added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Dakota Hale singled and stole second base, advancing to third on a Kenna Mayfield bunt single. Annslee Leeviraphan hit a sacrifice fly to score Hale, while an Ellie Facklam single and error on the Warriors scored Mayfield to make it a 7-0 ballgame.

Madi Bentley closed the door on Sterling, not allowing a run to score en route to EU's 7-0 win and sweep of the Warriors.
