WINFIELD, Kan. – Valor Baseball concluded their three game series with Southwestern College on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon, looking to bounce back after their loss in game one on Friday.

Evangel used strong offensive play in game two to take a 9-3 win over the Moundbuilders and were able to win a narrow contest in game three to take the series over Southwestern College, 2-1.

NOTABLE

• Evangel went .245 (15/61) combined from the plate on Saturday.

• Riley Mitchell led Evangel from the plate, going 3-7 in the pair of wins, finishing with four runs and two walks.

• Wyatt Keplar earned his second win of the season in game two while Isaac Daley earned his fourth win in game three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Evangel opened game two by scoring three runs in the top of the first. Riley Mitchell singled and stole second base, while Taylor McLeod singled to drive in Mitchell. Levi Loughridge was hit by a pitch and Brooks Espy hit a single to load the bases for EU. An Eli Cook double scored both McLeod and Loughridge to make it a 3-0 lead for EU.

• The Valor scored another three runs in the top of the second inning to extend their lead. Matthew Olson was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit from Isaac Miller. A Riley Mitchell single advanced Olson to third, as Olson came around to score on a Levi Loughridge single. An error on the Southwestern pitcher allowed Mitchell to score and Loughridge scored on a Brooks Espy single, taking a 6-0 lead.

• After a few scoreless innings, the Valor added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Riley Mitchell walked and stole both second and third base, scoring on a Moundbuilders error. Taylor McLeod scored on a Levi Loughridge single after getting on via error, to make it a 8-0 ballgame.

• Southwestern scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 8-1 game.

• EU added another run in the top of the seventh, as Jeremy Vickers doubled to get on base and scored while Jeremiah Leaming attempted to steal, giving the Valor a 9-1 lead.

• The Moundbuilders scored a pair of runs to close the game on Saturday, as EU took a 9-3 win.

• Evangel scored a pair of runs to open game three. Jeremy Vickers worked a walk, followed by a Riley Mitchell single to put runners on. Riley Mitchell and Jeremy Vickers both executed the double steal, as Vickers came around to score on a Moundbuilder error. Mitchell came across to score on a wild pitch, putting EU ahead, 2-0.

• Neither team scored very many runs, as Southwestern only plated a run, en route to Evangel's 2-1 victory over the Moundbuilders and win of the series.
