SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Baseball concluded their three-game series on Sunday (Mar. 10) afternoon against the Avila Eagles, looking to bounce back after falling in yesterday's single nine-inning match.
In game one on Sunday, Evangel would trail early and come up short of a comeback after scoring four runs in the fifth inning, falling 13-8. The Valor would bounce back in game two on Sunday as a five-run sixth inning proved to be the difference in Evangel's comeback victory over the Eagles, 11-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Avila pushed out to a an early 9-0 lead after the first three innings of game one on Sunday.

The Eagles scored an additional pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take an 11-0 lead, but the Valor would respond with four runs of their own. After Carson Sturdefant reached base via error, Matthew Olson singled to put runners at the corners. An Arly Miller single scored Sturdefant while a Riley Mitchell double scored Garret Trantham (who courtesy ran for Miller) and Olson, making it an 11-3 game. Mitchell came across to score on an error on Avila to make it 11-4.

Avila scored another pair of runs in the top of the seventh to take a 13-4 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Evangel scored a pair of runs. Carson Sturdefant singled, followed by a Garret Trantham double. Adam Denniston doubled to left field, scoring Sturdefant, while Isaac Miller hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 13-6 game.

The Valor offense would again score a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, as Holton Simmons hit a single, followed by a Taylor McLeod double. An error would score Simmons and a sacrifice fly by Matthew Olson scored McLeod, making it a 13-8 game. EU could not generate any additional run scoring offense in game one, falling 13-8.

After Avila scored to open the bottom of the first, Evangel responded by tying the game up at 1-1. Riley Mitchell singled and scored on a Levi Loughridge hit.

Avila scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. Evangel was able to match Avila with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game up at 6-6. Taylor McLeod and Eli Cook both singled, and a Carson Sturdefant walk loaded the bases for EU. Arly Miller and Jeremy Vickers both worked bases loaded walks to score McLeod and Cook. Isaac Miller hit a sacrifice fly to score Sturdefant to make it a 6-4 game. Arly Miller scored on a balk and a Brooks Espy single scored Vickers to tie the game at 6-6.

Avila would score another pair of runs in the top of fifth to retake the lead, 8-6, but Evangel's offensive outpouring in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Valor an 11-8 lead. Matthew Olson opened the inning with a single, followed by an error that got Isaac Miller on base. Riley Mitchell singled to load the bases and a Brooks Espy sacrifice fly scored Olson. An error on a Levi Loughridge at-bat scored Miller, while a Taylor McLeod single scored Mitchell. After Eli Cook worked a walk, Carson Sturdefant hit a sacrifice fly to score Garret Trantham, who ran for Loughridge, and finally a Jeremiah Leaming single scored Taylor McLeod, making it an 11-8 game, in favor of the Valor.

Will Foster closed the door on Avila, as EU took an 11-8 win over the Eagles in the final game of the series.
