Valor Baseball Drops Tightly Contested Matchup at Bethany

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Valor Baseball traveled on Friday (Mar. 1) afternoon to Lindsborg, Kansas, to take on the Bethany College Swedes in an opening nine inning match in a three game series.

Neither team would produce much offense on Friday and the difference would be on an error in the third inning that ultimately allowed two Swede runs to score, as the Valor would score two runs the duration of the game, falling 3-2.

NOTABLE

  • Evangel hit just .143 on Friday, with two of their four hits being for extra bases.

  • Levi Loughridge and Isaac Miller both finished Friday with an RBI.

  • Wyatt Keplar allowed just one earned run in seven innings of pitching, striking out eight batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany would score a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.

  • In the bottom of the third inning, the Swedes would plate a pair of runs, both of which scored after an error which would have gotten the Valor out of the inning unscathed, making it a 3-0 game.

  • In the top of the fourth inning, Riley Mitchell would work a walk, steal second base, and ultimately score on a Levi Loughridge single to left field, making it a 3-1 ballgame.

  • Just one inning later, Cole Leonhart would single and a Matthew Olson double would put Leonhart on third. An Isaac Miller sacrifice fly to right field would make it a 3-2 game in favor of the Swedes.

  • In the final four innings of the game, Evangel would earn just two more runners on base, working two walks, as neither runner could come around to score, as EU fell, 3-2.
