Valor WBB Takes on KWU in Conference Tournament Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel Women's Basketball qualified for the KCAC Conference Tournament, earning the fifth seed, and will travel on Wednesday (Feb. 28) evening to take on the four seeded Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes in Salina, Kansas.

Tip-off for Wednesday's quarterfinal game is set for 7:00 p.m. as the Valor look to pull off the win over the Coyotes and advance to the conference tournament semifinals.

SERIES HISTORY

Evangel and KWU will match up for the fifth time in program history on Wednesday, as Evangel is still winless in the all-time matchup with the Coyotes, 0-4. EU fell to KWU twice this season, once in overtime on the road and once at home by just three points.

OPENING STORYLINES

  • Evangel hits the road on Wednesday (Feb. 28) evening to take on the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes in the KCAC Conference Tournament Semifinals, the 29th consecutive conference tournament appearance in Evangel WBB history.

  • The Valor used a big second half of play to overcome a first half deficit and defeat the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles on Saturday, 80-69, in the women's final regular season game in the Ashcroft Center.

  • Evangel concluded the 2023-24 regular season with a 16-9 record overall and 14-8 record in the KCAC. EU finished the regular season tied with KWU in the conference standings, but the Coyotes had the tiebreaker.

  • Evangel was led by Carson Dillard on Saturday, as she tied her career high, scoring 23 points in the win.

  • With a win on Wednesday, the Valor would advance to the conference semifinals, taking on the winner of #1 Tabor and #8 Bethel. With a Tabor win, Evangel would travel to Tabor. With a Bethel win, Evangel would host Bethel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Valor are fifth in the nation in offensive rebounding, currently averaging 16.7 per game.

  • Evangel allows just 63.0 points per game, the fourth lowest mark in the conference behind Tabor (55.0), Friends (61.4), and Saint Mary (62.4).

LOOKING AHEAD

With a win, Evangel will either take on the #1 Tabor Bluejays or the #8 Bethel Threshers on Saturday (Mar. 2) afternoon at 2:00 p.m. With a loss, Evangel's 2023-24 season will likely come to an end.
