KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer hit the road on Tuesday (Nov. 5) evening, taking on the #3 Avila Eagles in the KCAC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals, after earning the sixth seed after a strong regular season finish. The Valor and Eagles fought to a tie at the halftime break, but a pair of goals from the Eagles in the second half was enough, as EU fell, 0-2, on the road to end their 2024 campaign.
Both Avila and Evangel played a tight first half, with neither team putting up much on the offensive side of the ball. Evangel's Ava Campbell recorded the first shot of the match, but a save from the Eagles keeper kept EU off the scoreboard. The Campbell shot was Evangel's only one on goal in the game, as Avila put a trio of shots up, but strong saves from Rylee Clapp kept Avila off the scoreboard, as both teams took a 0-0 tie into the halftime break.
In the second half, it would be Avila who came out quick on offense, taking a free kick that ricocheted off a pair of Valor defenders and found an Eagle attacker, putting Avila ahead, 1-0. Campbell once again was able to get a ball at her feet, but her shot went just high of the goal at the 52:22 mark. The Eagles were able to extend their lead, scoring their second goal at the 56:37 mark to take a 2-0 lead. Evangel continued to get shots, but could not get a goal on the scoreboard, as they ultimately fell, 2-0.

QUOTABLE
"Words cannot begin to truly express how much I love this team and how proud of them I am. We played another very good soccer match today in our quarterfinal against Avila, they just found the back of the net and we were not able to. This team has truly brought the EUWSOC program back!! These ladies set a new standard for shutouts in a season (8) and the second best season ever in our history for goals conceded in the season." Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "While we exit the postseason after today's defeat, we got back there after a four year absence, and that is something special for this special group!!! As a number of young ladies stepped off the field for the final time as a player, I simply count my blessings for the privilege I had in sharing this journey with them. So I say thank you to our seniors for making a difference with this team and this old man!! I am honored that God brought us together and I was able to share a portion of your life journey with you. Thanks to every player on this team for making this one incredible and special season."
