SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer returned home on Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon, hosting the York Panthers, honoring their seniors prior to the match. Evangel played tough in a physical matchup and ultimately earned a draw in their 2024 season finale, 1-1, with York, concluding their season.
Igor Ovcarevic fueled most of Evangel's offense in the first half, recording a pair of shots on goal, but neither found the back of the net, as the York keeper kept EU off the scoreboard in the first half. Evangel's defense played tough, keeping York off the scoreboard as well, as the nine shots the Panthers took in the first half were all stopped by the defense, with both teams in a scoreless tie at the end of the first half.
Evangel ramped up their offense in the second half, nearly doubling York's shot total in the period. It was evident that the Valor wanted to attack quickly, putting up several shots on goal in the first eight minutes of the half, with all being stopped by the Panthers defense. York put their first goal on the scoreboard at the 54:29 mark, taking a 1-0 lead on the Valor, but just four minutes later, the Valor responded with a goal of their own, coming from Amari Forbes to tie the game at 1-1. Evangel was able to generate several shots from Igor Ovcarevic in the latter moments of the second half, but the Valor could not score after their first goal and York also did not score, as both teams took a 1-1 draw on Saturday, ending Evangel's historic 2024 campaign.

QUOTABLE
"I'm so unbelievably proud of my team and the way they performed throughout all of the injuries and adversity we faced this year. Because of their unrelenting drive to never quit, they shattered records and finished with the most conference wins in Evangel history and most wins overall in EU Men's Soccer history. We set for ourselves very lofty goals and placed obstacles in our way that would challenge us, including our matches with Division 1 and Division 2 teams to start the season," Men's Soccer Head Coach Kyle Beard stated. "We came very close to achieving our goals. This team has forever changed the reputation and direction of Evangel Men's Soccer!"
