BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Valor Men's Basketball hit the road on Wednesday (Jan. 10) evening to take on the eighth ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles, looking to stop their two-game losing skid. A cold shooting performance in the first half hurt Evangel's chances, as they fell behind by as much as 23 in the first half, ultimately falling, 85-56, on the road.
Oklahoma Wesleyan came out quick against Evangel, as the Valor could not match but one Eagle basket in the first seven minutes of the first half, as they trailed, 24-2. The Eagles would push out to a 23-point lead with 6:42 remaining in the first half, 33-10. The Valor would begin their push to fight back in the final six minutes of the half. A 16-6 run in the span of five minutes would have Evangel at just a 13-point deficit in the ball game, but OKWU would end the half on a 4-0 run to make it a 43-26 game, as EU trailed by 17 points.
Despite the Eagles taking a 19-point lead to open the half, the Valor would continue to fight in the opening minutes, bringing the game down to just a 12-point OKWU lead. Five points by Josh Mason in the span helped to fuel the Valor run. A timeout by the Eagles stalled the Valor run out, as OKWU went on a 21-4 run to take a 29-point lead, 68-39. The Valor could not generate any additional runs the remainder of the game, as they fell on the road, 85-56.
QUOTABLEÂ
"Anytime you're going through a rough patch, it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I thought the attitude going into this game was really good. Unfortunately, OKWU is a good team and didn't give us much of a chance to climb out," head coach Bert Capel stated. "We'll fix what we did wrong this game and get ready for Saint Mary on Saturday."Â
