SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer played host to the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon, looking to rebound from a tough loss last Wednesday to the Avila Eagles. An early Kansas Wesleyan goal off a penalty shot was the difference in the match, as EU fell 1-0 in a physical match on Saturday.

The Coyotes racked up several shots in the first few minutes of the half as the Valor goalkeeper Anthony Morales displayed exceptional defense, not allowing a goal to be scored from the early barrage. An Evangel corner gave the Valor their first opportunity for a shot, as a header from Ted Okoroh was blocked by a Coyote defender. At the 10:39 mark in the game, a foul was called on an Evangel defender in the box, awarding Kansas Wesleyan with a penalty shot. KWU would capitalize, taking a 1-0 lead over Evangel in the first 11 minutes of the game. The Valor would find additional opportunities from Junior Barboza and Ted Okoroh in the half, but could not find the back of the net as they trailed 1-0 heading into the halftime break.

Evangel was unable to get a solid opportunity on goal in the second half, combining for six shots in the period, with just one being on goal. The Valor fought to try and score the equalizer, but the Kansas Wesleyan defense intercepted several of Evangel's passes with attackers running through. The Valor defense did not allow the Coyotes to score an additional goal, as EU fell, 1-0, in full time.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ted Okoroh recorded five shots, with two being on goal, in the match against KWU.
