Box Score

YORK, Neb. -- Valor Men's Basketball traveled to Nebraska on Wednesday (Nov. 29) evening, looking to bring home another win in conference play, this time against the York Panthers. A strong offensive performance in both halves by Evangel helped push the game out of reach, as the Valor brought home a 99-75 road victory over the Panthers.

A back and forth start to the first half found the York Panthers leading Evangel, 11-10, with 15:52 remaining in the first half. A layup by Josh Mason put the Valor ahead, 12-11, as Evangel would never trail from this point in the ballgame. With the score tied, 23-23, the Valor would go on a 13-0 run, fueled by seven points from Carson Cavalier and a pair of threes from Broc Smith, to put the Valor ahead, 36-23. Evangel continued to pour it on as they closed out the first half, going on a 14-9 run after their 13-0 run, to take a 50-32 lead heading into the halftime break.

York would fight back to open the second half, going on a 14-4 run as Evangel only led by eight points with 16:25 remaining in the game. Jace Coffie and Garrett Davault began a big run for Evangel to respond to the Panthers scoring, helping EU re-extend their lead, this time to a 16 point lead after a Jace Coffie three forced a timeout with the Valor ahead, 71-55. Cavalier and Smith again went on a scoring run of their own and a three by Manrique Alvarado with 5:46 remaining in the game gave Evangel a 28 point lead, their largest of the evening. Evangel scored an additional 11 points after they took their largest lead, taking a 99-75 victory on Wednesday night.

QUOTABLE

"I'm proud of the guys tonight for finishing the game strong. Our last couple of games we have not been doing a great job of that," head coach Bert Capel stated. "It's been something we have been talking about and I'm glad they got it done tonight. I'm excited to return home for another conference game on Saturday afternoon for our Alumni Day!"
