SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team opened its Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with an impressive 94-57 victory over Tabor College Wednesday night.
 
The Valor led from start to finish to open action in the new conference. Evangel jumped out early and led 43-24 at halftime over the Blue Jays but locked in coming out of the locker room after intermission.
 
A Josh Pritchett layup 30 seconds into the second half started a 14-0 run that built the lead to 33 points at 57-24. Pritchett finished with 14 points and five assists in win as the Valor led by as many as 41 points late in the second half.
 
Three-pointers from Josh Mason and Manrique Alvarado aided the Valor during the stretch as Mason finished with a game-high 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Alvarado also finished in double figures adding 10 points and six assists.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Evangel shot 53 percent from the field and held Tabor to 38 percent shooting. It tied a season-high for the Valor who also shot 53 percent at William Woods.
  • Evangel out-rebounded Tabor 42-34 and converted on 22 points off turnovers. The Blue Jays scored five points off turnovers.
  • The Valor tallied a season-best 22 assists and turned the ball over just eight times.
  • 12 different Valor players scored in the win. Four finished in double figures: Mason (17), Pritchett (14), Jace Coffie (11), and Alvarado (10).
  • Bryce Hunt led Evangel with seven rebounds and Stephen Salvi added six.
  • Tabor made just two three-pointers on 2 of 14 shooting while Evangel was 11 of 21 from behind the three-point arc.
 
NEXT UP
Evangel makes its first KCAC road trip Saturday to Salina, Kansas for a meeting with Kansas Wesleyan. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
