SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Women's Soccer returned home on Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon, looking to add a win to the win column, hosting the Bethel Threshers. After eight total goals were scored and the dust had cleared, both teams walked away on Saturday with a 4-4 tie.
In the first 13 minutes of the match, Bethel was able to get on the board, taking an early 1-0 lead. After the score, Evangel's offense began to push the pace, racking off several shots on goal. On a free kick, Evangel's Anna Crain scored her seventh goal of the season, tying the game up at 1-1. Bethel quickly responded just eight minutes after Crain's goal by scoring on a corner kick, pushing the Threshers ahead, 2-1. Less than four minutes later, Grayson Murphy took the ball up the left side of the field and shot a high shot that went over the keeper's outstretched arms, once again tying the game up, this time at 2-2. With less than four minutes left in the first half, the Threshers scored another goal, taking a 3-2 lead into the halftime break.
The Valor offense came out fast to open the second set, tying the score up at 3-3 in the first minute and seven seconds of the half on an Ava Campbell goal. Evangel was able to score a go-ahead goal at the 65:12 mark of the game on Anna Crain's eight goal of the season, on a nice pass from Hannah Truant. Nearly 10 minutes later in the half, Bethel scored an equalizer, on another corner kick, putting the game at 4-4. Evangel would record five shots in the final 15 minutes of the half, but could not score another as both teams took a 4-4 tie at the end of regulation.

QUOTABLE
"I am proud of our heart, effort, and battle today. Being down a goal at half and leveling it very early in the second half, then scoring a second time to take the lead truly reflected their commitment to the team and one another," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "We need to do a better job defending set pieces on free kicks and corners because this is the area that challenged us today. I will take a point but am disappointed we didn't get the win since I felt we played well enough in possession to do so."
