SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After falling to Southwestern College in a narrow matchup on Wednesday, Valor Women's Soccer bounced back in a big way, taking down the Sterling College Warriors, 1-0, and keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Evangel dominated on offense in the first half, recording shot attempt after shot attempt, but the Sterling goalkeeper kept Evangel off the board. The Valor outshot Sterling 11-2 in the first half, but EU would be held scoreless, as both teams took a scoreless tie into the halftime break. Hannah Truant finished the half leading the Valor offense with three shot attempts.
The second half played similar to the first half, as Evangel dominated on the offensive attack, but could not record a goal. Evangel was able to record a solid attempt in the second half when a shot by the Valor hit off the top of the crossbar and off the back of the keeper, but the Warriors goalie was able to record the save, keeping EU off the board. With just nine minutes remaining in the half, Evangel found an excellent opportunity. An exceptional hustle play by Liyah Collins to keep the ball from going out of bounds was followed by her crossing the ball and finding Anna Krueger, who used a nice header to score Evangel's game winning goal. EU was able to shut down the Sterling offense, finishing the game with a 1-0 victory to keep their postseason hopes alive.

"I love how we controlled the match throughout today. I truly liked our ability to control possession and the flow of the game, which helped us create chances. I'm glad we were finally able to finish one out to get the win today," Women's Soccer Head Coach Bruce Deaton stated. "Today was a great way to thank our eight seniors for what they mean to us and what they have done for our program!"
