SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Valor Men's Soccer returned home on Friday (Oct. 20) evening, looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Southwestern. Evangel was able to score early in the match, but Sterling was able to find the equalizer, as both teams played to a 1-1 tie, Evangel's sixth of the season.

Evangel opened the match dominating on offense. The Valor were able to put pressure on the Warrior goalkeeper by recording several shot attempts. After several Evangel headers went wide in the half, the Valor would get their opportunity when Cole Oedewaldt was able to nail a shot, putting Evangel ahead of the Warriors, 1-0, heading into the halftime break.

Despite Evangel playing well in the first half, the Sterling offense would fight back in the second half. Just 11 minutes into the period, Sterling would score the equalizer, making it a 1-1 match. The final 33 minutes of the game would prove to be physical, as both teams made a push to score a game winning goal. The Valor would generate several opportunities, with their best coming near the end of the game, when Eneh Chibozer would get a fast break with just the keeper to beat. Ultimately, the shot would be stopped by the keeper as both teams fought to a 1-1 tie on Friday evening.

HIGHLIGHTS

• The Valor and Warriors played a tightly contested match, as Sterling just slightly outshot Evangel, 15-12.

• Oedewaldt's goal in the first half was his first of the season.

• Friday's match was a physical one, as both teams were called for a combined 24 fouls and seven yellow cards.
