BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Oklahoma Wesleyan rode a 22-4 first-half scoring run to a season-opening 75-59 victory over the Evangel men's basketball team Saturday afternoon at the Muller Sports Center.
The Eagles (2-0) led by as many as 23 points in the opening half, as Taylen Miller's 16 points led a contingent of four double-digit scorers for OKWU.
Evangel was paced by Josh Pritchett's 16 points, but the Crusaders shot just 0.339 from the floor and committed 13 turnovers in sustaining their seventh-straight loss in a season opener.
OKWU used an Austin Poling field goal to spark their decisive first-half run, as EU went nearly nine minutes without a field goal before Pritchett's three-pointer with 8:33 left in the half stopped the drought.
Del Jelley added a trey with 5:29 to play, then hit one of two free throws to stretch the OKWU lead to 33-10 at the 4:33 mark, marking the Eagles biggest lead of the day.
EU pulled to within nine points on a Chris Stocks free throw early in the second half, but would the Crusaders would get no closer the rest of the way.
Pritchett knocked down 6-of-12 field goal attempts, while Pavel Antonov added five points and six rebounds for the Crusaders. EU shot just 0.339 from the floor, while the Eagles connected on 27-of-72 shots (0.375), and outrebounded the Crusaders by a 50-33 margin.
In addition to Miller's 16 points, OKWU got 12 point performances from Kaleb Stokes and Jelley.
