DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Another smothering performance on defense for the Evangel University football team saw the Crusaders post a 28-0 shutout at Clarke University in Heart Conference cross over action.

Four takeaways helped the Crusaders seal the win with interceptions from Sam Morton, Dalton Taylor, Andrew Poppen, and Athanie Leeviraphan.

On offense Evangel did almost anything it wanted, rushing for 364 yards and 517 yards of total offense. While the perfect football game may seem impossible, areas for improvement always surround a team. The Crusaders will look to improve on their 3 of 6 chances inside the redzone while they were able to march the ball up and down the field most of the afternoon.

Defensively, Morton led the Crusaders with nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for a loss, while Seth Cathey and Myles Williams combined for a sack. As a team, Evangel finished with 10 tackles for a loss as Will Anoa'i and Cathey each added 2.0.

The Crusaders got on the board after an interception ended the opening drive for Clarke. Evangel would use 10 plays and take 4:15 off the clock as Ben Friend plunged into the endzone from 1-yard out.

The lead for Evangel would grow to 14-0 when Zeke Kuyawa turned the corner on a 12-yard scamper to cap a 4-play drive. Kuyawa would finish with his first 100-yard rushing game with 123-yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.

Evangel would take a 14-0 lead into halftime before taking the second-half kickoff. The Crusaders would again get a 1-yard touchdown run from Friend to take a 21-0 lead with 12:48 left in the quarter.

Kuyawa would help the Crusaders seal the game on the scoreboard in the third quarter when he ran into the endzone from 6-yards out. The junior quarterback was 10-of-22 for 133 yards through the air.

Sam Buckner caught four passes for 60-yards and Jansen Acklin caught three passes for 76-yards to lead the Crusaders.
