KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Looking for its first Heart of America Athletic Conference win, the Evangel women's basketball team escaped with a 55-53 win at Avila on Wednesday night.

The Crusaders and Eagles exchanged the lead nine times in the game with Evangel leading 29-24 at halftime. However, it was free throw shooting down the stretch that helped seal the win as Evangel finished 12-of-14 form the line in the win.

Sydnee Garrett was held well below her season scoring average, but the junior still managed to record a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kylee Moore led the Crusaders with 12 points as Randi Hancock and Paige Patterson both added 11 points each.

Avila was led by Taylor Faulkner who finished with a game-high 21 points despite both teams struggling from the field. The Eagles shot just 32 percent while Evangel shot 34 percent from the field.

Evangel returns to Springfield on Saturday to host Central Methodist in Heart action. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
