BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Evangel women's basketball team's upset bid of No. 13 Baker came up just short Wednesday night falling 73-71 in Heart South Division action.

The Crusaders led 41-35 at halftime but fell cold in the third quarter as the Wildcats outscored Evangel 29-13. Evangel would rally back to pull within 71-69 with 2:06 left in the game. Sydnee Garrett would have a chance at an and-1 opportunity with 38 seconds left to tie the game, but her free throw missed as Baker led 72-71.

After a Wildcat free throw with seven seconds left, Garrett would have another chance to send the game to overtime but her shot missed giving 13th-ranked Baker a 73-71 win. Garrett earned a double-double finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Mackenzie Farmer led Evangel for a second straight game finishing with a season-high 23 points. Paige Patterson added 12 points and eight boards for Evangel in the loss.

Baker was led by three players who finished with 16 points each, Caitlin Modesett, Sydnie Hanson, and Anna Hignight.

Evangel forced 16 Baker turnovers and finished with just 10 turnovers in the loss. However, Baker outscored Evangel 30-18 in the paint and out-rebounded the Crusaders 51-40.

Evangel closes its road swing Saturday at Missouri Valley. Tipoff from Marshall, Missouri, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
