Canton, Mo. -- Evangel scored 42 unanswered points to pull away from Culver-Stockton for a 52-20 win Saturday in Canton, Missouri.
Trailing 7-3 after the first quarter, the Crusaders took the lead for good on a six-yard touchdown run from Brock West to go ahead 10-7 with 5:58 left in the second quarter. Three and a half minutes later, Evangel scored again with a 15 yard run by Cade Wilke putting the Crusaders up 17-7 at halftime.
Evangel opened the second half by stopping the Wildcats on three downs then tackled the Culver-Stockton punter at his own 11-yard line. The play set up West's second touchdown, an 11-yard run giving Evangel a 24-7 lead.
The Crusaders added four touchdowns in the fourth quarter including two scoring runs by Josh Irby.
Josh Evans led the Evangel defense with 10 tackles, 2.5 tackles for losses, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Evangel improved to 2-2 while Culver-Stockton dropped to 0-4.
The Crusaders are home next Saturday hosting 10th ranked William Penn. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at JFK Stadium.
