Box Score Atchison, Kan. – Evangel dropped a road conference game to #21 Benedictine College 16-6 in a matchup between top 25 teams.
Evangel's defense held one of the nation's top offenses below their season average in points and yards, allowing only 358 yards and 16 points on the day. Benedictine averages 416 yards and 28 points per game but the Crusader defense held Benedictine in check for much of the day keeping the Ravens out of the end zone on all but one drive and forcing two more turnovers.
The Crusaders never really got going on offense as Benedictine held Evangel to 298 yards of total offense and caused five Evangel turnovers on the day.
Evangels Dante Young had 12 total tackles, eight solo with a tackle for loss. He also added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Senior Ell C. Teycer had five tackles, 3 tackles for loss and a 51 yard fumble return. Junior quarterback Brett Diers was 25-47 with 187 yards and three interceptions and senior Otis Brown caught 8 passes for 66 yards for the Crusaders in the loss.
The Crusaders drop to 3-2 and 1-2 in league play and the Ravens improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Heart of America conference.
Evangel will host Avila University for Homecoming weekend on Saturday October 11th. Game time is 6:00pm.
