Box Score Canton, Mo. – Evangel lost a close road conference game to Culver-Stockton College 24-19 at NX level Field.
The Crusaders led at the half 7-0 on a second quarter touchdown run by Brock West with 7:39 remaining in the half. The Wildcats answered with ten points in the third quarter on an Erik Zamudio 40 yard field goal and a Nick Hill 53 yard touchdown pass to Chris Swingle.
Evangel scored a touchdown of their own on an 81 yard pass from Brett Diers to Otis Brown with 10:19 remaining to cut the Wildcat lead to 17-13 after a failed extra point attempt.
Culver-Stockton scored their second touchdown in as many drives on a 5 yard pass from Hill to Swingle for the second time in as many series.
After a Diers interception and a Culver-Stockton three and out the Crusaders got the ball back with 2:12 remaining. Evangel drove 22 yards on six plays capped off with a Diers touchdown pass to Shawn Hebert. The Crusaders two point try failed cutting the Culver-Stockton's lead to 24-19.
The ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Wildcats Jeff Treadway to seal the win for Culver-Stockton.
Evangel senior wide receiver Otis Brown caught seven passes for 109 yards and touchdown. His seven receptions brings his season total to 62, four shy of tying the Evangel single season record held by Jon Ferguson who caught 66 passes in 1978.
The Crusaders drop to 4-4 and 2-4 in league play and the Wildcats move to 3-5 on the season and 1-5 in the HAAC.
Evangel will play at home next Saturday at JFK Stadium when they host Central Methodist University on November 1st. Game time is 1:30pm.
