SHREVEPORT, La. – The Evangel women's soccer team was denied several late chances Monday in a 1-0 loss at LSU-Shreveport in non-conference action.
The tough non-conference schedule continued for the Crusaders who rebounded after an early goal by LSUS that included a just three second-half shots from the home team.
"This fall we have put together the toughest non-conference schedule in our few short years as a program," said head coach Bruce Deaton. "Our performance today, especially in the second half was very strong. Now we just have to find the back of the net."
Evangel blistered the Pilots goal with 15 shots after seven first-half shots. Bianca Biffert placed three shots on goal but all were turned away by LSUS goalkeeper, Karolyn Hasler.
"The first half was quite evenly match and the ladies truly stepped it up in their play in the second half," Deaton said. "I felt we controlled the field and the tempo of play which led us to create a number of opportunities to score. Bianca Biffert and two of our freshman McKinley Yoder and Riley Jarvis generated 17 shots between them as we pressed to get that equalizing goal."
"It didn't happen today but I am still so excited because we played some brilliant soccer against a very good team, who played in the national tournament last year and one who is currently receiving votes in the national poll. Proud of these ladies and know we are ever so close."
Evangel returns home for a non-conference matchup Friday, Sept. 6, against Central Baptist at 5 p.m.
