Crusaders Win First Game of the Season With Thriller Over Central Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Crusaders win their first game of the season 4-2 over Central Baptist.

Jarrett Meyer opened up the scoring in the 12th minute with a header into the goal after there some confusion in the backline of the Mustangs of clearing the ball. Eight minutes later the game was tied after the Mustangs were able to convert a penalty kick.

They would then go on to take the lead in the 28th minute with a breakaway shot on goal. Thirty seconds later Jacob Voi would take advantage of a miscue by the Mustang midfield and passed a perfect ball to Nick Wagner who slotted it home to tie the game at 2.

It was a tight game for the rest of the first half and much of the second until 74th minute when the Mustangs committed a defensive foul just outside their own penalty area. Ian Creech fired a perfect shot across the face of the goal and connected with Voi's head to give the Crusaders the lead. Then in the 77th minute, Voi again found space with the ball and was able to find the back of the net, solidifying the Crusaders lead, 4-2.

In total, the Crusaders were able to get off 22 shots, eleven of which were on goal. Drew Flippin and Christian Clardy each had four shots.

In goal, Josiah Dinwiddie had three saves and allowed two goals, while Anthony Morales had two saves.


Evangel will hit the road and take on Williams Baptist in Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
