LAMONI, Iowa – Evangel baseball sees its offense explode in a sweep over Graceland, winning game one 11-8 and game two 7-1.

Game One
The Crusaders scored one run in the top of the first off a Jose Vargas single and never looked back. The Yellowjackets tied the game in the bottom of the second, but the Crusaders responded in the top of the third to retake the lead after Patrick Gaul scored on an error by the Yellowjacket shortstop.

The Crusaders then exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth. Harrison Stevens started the scoring with a 3 RBI double, then Vargas doubled to score Stevens. A few batters later, the Crusaders had the bases-loaded and the pitcher was called for a balk, which allowed Vargas to score from third. Graceland got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score to 7-2.

In the fifth, the Crusaders tacked on three more runs. Preston Allmand scored after Gaul reached first via an error. Then Jason Jarrell scored after Vargas grounded-out. Finally, Gaul scored after Jordan Yates singled to third. Again, Graceland would score a run in the bottom half of the inning, bringing the score to 10-3.

Graceland would score another run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Crusaders would get it back in the top of the seventh when Gaul scored after Yates' sac fly. Graceland would rally in the bottom of the seventh by scoring four runs, but the Crusaders brought in Austin Dill to pitch with one out, and he got a double play to end the game with a final of 11-8.

Gaul went 3-5 in the game with one RBI. Stevens and Vargas both had three RBI, while Yates had two.

Bret Hoffman pitched 6.0 innings giving up three earned runs off eight hits, striking out one and walking two. Collin Irvine pitched 0.1 inning giving up two earned runs off one hit and walking two.
