SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel volleyball team fell in straight sets Tuesday night, 3-0, to Missouri Valley in the Heart of America Athletic Conference finale.
The Crusaders fell to the Vikings for the second time this season but finished fifth in the Heart South Division to earn the final spot in the postseason tournament. Although official seeding has not been released, Evangel will likely travel to Mount Mercy on Thursday in first round action.
Tuesday night, Missouri Valley used late runs at the end of each set to hold off Evangel. The Vikings won set one 25-16 and set two 25-17, before overcoming the Crusaders late in the third to win 25-20.
Evangel struggled offensively as Olivia Johnston led the Crusaders with seven kills.
Missouri Valley was led by Katarina Krstonosic who posted a match-high 12 kills and a .281 hitting percentage.
Evangel waits for official seeding for the 2017 Heart Postseason Tournament as they will likely play at Mount Mercy on Thursday. The winner will advance to play the No. 1 seed from the South Division on Saturday, Nov. 4.
