Sheppard, Chambers and Armstrong Earn Heart Honors for Evangel Softball

SPRINGFIELD – Evangel softball junior Michelle Sheppard was named First Team Heart All-Conference and sophomore Lauren Chambers earned Honorable Mention accolades announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Sheppard led Evangel in nearly every offensive category and ranked eighth nationally in stolen bases. She hit .404 on the season and set the all-time Evangel stolen base record ending the season with 91 after stealing 38 bases this season, second-most in a single-season.

Chambers earned honorable mention honors after hitting .304 with 18 RBIs for the Crusaders.

Sheppard was also honored defensively as the league's Gold Glove winner at third base after posting a .942 fielding percentage with just eight errors. She was joined by senior outfielder Arlena Armstrong who earned honors in right field. Armstrong, a native of Lebanon, Mo., committed just two errors and posted a .968 fielding percentage.
