Top Evangel Moments from 2016-17: #1 – Softball Wins Heart South Division Championship

This is the 11th of 11 editions of the Top Evangel Moments from 2016-17 as selected by an online fan vote and the Evangel sports information office.

Teams spend countless hours searching for the ultimate prize in team sports, winning a championship. The first goal for all teams usually includes winning a conference championship en route to a national championship.

The 2017 Evangel softball team claimed its first championship under second-year head coach Jay Halbrook winning the Heart South Division. The Crusaders were able to ride a nine-game win streak in the middle of the season to help sit atop the league standings.

Evangel finished 31-22 overall and 22-14 in the Heart while going an impressive 17-3 at home. While the South Division Title was not the ultimate goal for the Crusaders, it helped propel them into the Championship game of the Heart Postseason Tournament.

Despite the heartbreaking tournament loss, look out for Evangel softball in 2018 as the Crusaders fight to stay atop the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
