SPRINGFIELD – Senior Cassidy Gillihan was recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for her combined performance athletically and in the classroom as part of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Gillihan was named to the District 3 First Team after posting a 3.80 GPA in psychology as also advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot. A native of Sterling, Ill., Gillihan entered the postseason hitting over .400 and leads Evangel with 62 hits.
She leads the team with 46 runs scored while also moving into the all-time Evangel top 10 records, for hits and runs. During the 2017 season, she has also moved into the top 10 for hits and runs scored as well.
The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
