SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Solid pitching for the Evangel baseball team helped the Crusaders sweep Concordia University Sunday afternoon, 8-3 and 1-0 in non-conference action.

Game One
Starter Derek Kennell improved to 2-1 on the season as he scattered six hits, struck out eight and walked none. Kennell allowed just three runs, all coming in the second inning and aided by a pair of home runs.

However, the junior left-hander settled in retiring 11 straight Bulldogs before a single to right in the top of the sixth ended the streak. Kennell would get a lineout to end the inning and work around a lead-off single in the seventh to close the win.

Evangel battled back to quickly tie the game in the bottom of the second inning when Patrick Gaul singled home Mason Baur and Dylan Bradshaw. Bradshaw walked to lead-off the inning and Baur followed with a one-out single. Gaul would score later in the inning to tie the game on a passed ball.

After a solo home run in the third inning from Tanner McVey, Evangel broke open the game in the fourth inning. The Crusaders scored four runs on five hits and an error starting with an RBI single from Jose Vargas.

McVey finished 3-for-4 while Baur also recorded multiple hits and scored two runs for Evangel.

Game Two
Dustin Eby earned his second win of the season tossing a complete game 1-hitter for the Crusaders. Eby walked just two Bulldog hitters and struck out nine to help Evangel to a 1-0 victory.

Patrick Gaul finished 2-for-3 as Evangel tallied five hits in the second game.

The lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tanner McVey scored on a wild pitch. McVey walked with one out and moved to third on a Ryan Frye double. The run proved to be enough for the Crusaders to seal their third straight win and sixth win in seven games.
